5 Game of Thrones filming locations you MUST visit on your next Euro trip

King’s Landing – Dubrovnik, Croatia

The South Dalmatian city of Dubrovnik has been the setting for King’s Landing since season 2 and boasts some of the shows most infamous scenes. Croatia has seen most of the shows filming, and is definitely the country you must check out.

Anyone remember this?!

I loved this show as a kid and now it’s being released on DVD as a complete collection for AUS$110 form JBHIFI. It’s times like this that I wish I had money because I’d love to go on this nostalgia trip!

The message behind Captain Planet is especially relevant today and probably a part why the Millenial generation is so environmentally conscious.

Wynonna Earp – A Western Fantasy

A funny and yet serious show that just finished airing its second season Wynonna Earp is a western style supernatural fantasy set in Canada in the modern day.

Wynonna Earp descendant of Wyatt Earp the legendary lawman hunts demons and the supernatural with her ancestors famous gun Peacemaker and Wyatt’s old friend Doc Holliday for help.

Interested yet? I found Wynonna Earp surfing Netflix for something to watch and I don’t regret taking the chance the second season is only halfway done here in Australia but the second season can be purchased through iTunes.

It’s been described as Buffy: The Vampire Slayer’s grown up cousin so if you enjoyed Buffy here’s something new for you!

Not your traditional Superman but a brilliantly layered show about the journey of Clark Kent from a teenage boy to a superhero. Will always be my #1 for the brilliant relationship between Lex Luthor and Clark Kent which is my favourite TV friendship.

#2 DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

A multi-season time-travel superhero team-up full of laughs and action DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is now entering its third season. How they plan to top the Legion of Doom I don’t know but I can’t wait to find out!

#3 Lucifer

The Devil has retired to the City of Angels to solve crimes and run a nightclub. This brilliant creation based off of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman Graphic Novel series is a little awkward in places but great fun that gives new meaning to sympathy for the devil.

The Defenders – Review

So I confess I binge watched this over the course of a day just after it came out and then I rewatched it. It was honestly a fantastic show that I had intended to watch over a period of time but it just sucked me in and suddenly I was done.

OOPS!

One thing that Marvel’s Cinematic Universe has always done well is taking separate shows, characters or movies and bringing them together in what feels like an organic way and The Defenders is a great example of that.

The storyline follows all four of the main heroes of the piece; Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist as they come together to fight against the ancient organisation known as The Hand.

Characterisation was on point not only for the main characters but for the supporting characters we know and love as well and with the marvellously talented Sigourney Weaver playing the main villain Alexandra it is a spectacular cast of tremendously talented actors.

The action scenes were broken up by scenes that actually helped develop the characters and their relationships with each other something which the Avengers failed to do mostly because it didn’t have the time.

And the last episode was a beautifully done with a cliffhanger that I can’t wait to see the resolution of.

Overall I’d give The Defenders 8/10.

I know I’ve been vague but I don’t want to give spoilers to those of you who haven’t yet seen the show.

Top 5 Marvel TV Series

#1 Jessica Jones

For me, Jessica Jones tops the list and is the best of Marvels TV series currently. Jessica Jone is a deeply flawed heroine struggling with Post Traumatic Stress from the time she spent under the control of the villainous Kilgrave.

Every one of the characters is a fully fleshed out person from Jessica herself to Malcolm, Jessica’s neighbour. It’s rare to see a show like Jessica Jones on TV and I have my fingers crossed that the second season will be just as good.

#2 Daredevil

The first series to come out of the Netflix/Marvel partnership, Daredevil is brilliant series that has already had 2 seasons and a part in the crossover series The Defenders.

A blind superhero, Daredevil has no real superpowers other than his advanced senses which he uses to help the people of Hell’s Kitchen in New York City. His season 1 nemesis the villain known as the Kingpin Wilson Fisk (played by the brilliant Vincent D’Onofrio) is a staple that many may recognise from the Spiderman: The Animated Series cartoon that aired in the 90’s.

#3 The Defenders

The Defenders crossover event brought together Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Daredevil together in a way vaguely reminiscent of the Avengers movie. The 4 superheroes all of whom are generally loners come together to fight against the Hand which brought together storylines introduced in each hero’s individual shows.

The cliffhanger at the end of this series was brilliant and  I can’t wait to see how the Marvel and Netflix use it going into further seasons.

#4 Agent Carter

The only show on this list that isn’t a collaboration with Netflix the Spin-Off series Agent Carter lasted only 2 seasons much to the dismay of its numerous fans many of whom are still lobbying for a revival from either Netflix or Amazon.

Agent Carter was set in the 1940’s and followed Agent Peggy Carter of Captain America fame as she worked at the SSR (an intelligence organisation) the precursor to the SHIELD we see in the Marvel Cinematic universe’s movies.

#5 Luke Cage

Luke Cage is a bulletproof black man living in Harlem, New York in a time where racial prejudice is at a high. Like Daredevil and Jessica Jones Luke Cage does not deal with alien invasions and doomsday events, he deals in the street level crime in his neighbourhood.

But don’t be fooled Luke Cage is not a saint he has secrets that unfold during the first and so far the only season of his show.

First Female Doctor Who

The new Doctor has been announced and for the first time in the show’s history, the Doctor is a woman!

Who else is excited?!

The thirteenth doctor will be played by the fantastic Jodie Whittaker of Broadchurch fame.

I can’t wait to see where this will go….
